NEW BERLIN, Wis. -
The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team remained
unbeaten in Northern Athletics Conference play as they defeated
Lakeland 8-1 Wednesday at the Princeton Club in New Berlin,
Wis.
The Warriors swept all three doubles matches as they built a
comfortable 3-0 lead at the conclusion of doubles play. The #1 duo
of Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Stephanie Gengler (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) downed Lakeland's (1-2,
1-2 NAC) April Schmitz and Lynn Pipke, 8-1.
Also winning in doubles competition was the #2 team of Kathryn
Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) and Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha,
Wis./St. Joseph) as they were victorious, 8-3. Completing the sweep
for WLC in doubles action was the #3 duo of Emily Pearson (Prairie
du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage
Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) as they took their match, 8-2.
The Warriors also controlled singles play as they took five of six
singles matches en route to the 8-1 victory. Strehlow led the way
at #1 singles winning with relative ease, 6-1, 6-0. Hendee also had
little trouble with her opponent at #2 singles as she picked up a
6-0, 6-1 victory.
Wisconsin Lutheran also picked up singles wins at #3, #5 and #6. At
#3 singles, it was Strangstalien who netted a 6-1, 6-0 victory,
while Bonnin won a match in which her opponent retired at #5
singles. Rounding out the singles lineup was Petra Krause (Oshkosh,
Wis./West), who coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win for WLC.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-1, 2-0 NAC) returns to action tomorrow when
it travels to Lake Forest (4-0) for a non-conference match. The
Warriors and Foresters will begin play at 4:30 p.m. at the LFC
Tennis Courts.
