MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin
Lutheran College volleyball team won both of its matches Wednesday
night as they defeated MSOE and Carroll at the WLC Triangular. The
Warriors did not lose a set as they swept both matches at the
Recreation Complex.
In the opening match of the day, WLC defeated MSOE in three sets by
scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-20. Despite both teams being Northern
Athletics Conference members, the contest was a non-conference
match.
Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the way
for Wisconsin Lutheran in the first match as she tallied 11 kills.
Teammate Steph Cox (Sheboygan, Wis./Lutheran) dished out 27 assists
in the win, while Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) led the Warriors with 11 digs.
Lynnsey LeCount led the visiting Raiders (1-5) as she recorded
eight kills in the loss, while teammate Amy Gustafson led all
players with 13 digs.
WLC maintained its momentum from the MSOE victory against Carroll
as the Warriors also rolled to a win in three sets by scores of
25-21, 25-17 and 27-25. The Warriors trailed 23-19 in the third set
before rallying for eight of the final 10 points.
Erin Greenfield again led the way for Wisconsin Lutheran as she
notched 16 kills in the second match, while teammate Kelli Johnson
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) added 11 kills. Cox was even
better in the second match of the night as she served up her
teammates en route to a match-high 37 assists. Ridgeman added 15
digs in the win.
Kelly Sloyan had a team-high nine kills for the visiting Pioneers
(2-4), while Lydia Guell had a team-best 13 digs.
In the other match of the triangular, Carroll defeated MSOE 3-1.
The Pioneers dropped the opening set 23-25 before rallying to win
the next three sets 25-11, 25-10 and 25-20.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-3) returns to action next Tuesday when it
travels to face Marian (4-2) in its NAC opener. Action at
the Sadoff Gymnasium in Fond du Lac, Wis., is set to begin at 7
p.m.
