MADISON, Wis. - Senior Shavon Dillon
(Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) scored a game-high 21 points and the
Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team used a 10-0 run
late in the second half to defeat Edgewood 58-50 Saturday at the
Todd Wehr Edgedome.
With the Warriors leading 46-41 with 7:22 left to play in the
second half, the host Eagles scored eight straight points for a
49:46 lead at the 5:50 mark. However, Wisconsin Lutheran responded
with a 10-0 run and held Edgewood scoreless for the next 5:27 to
come away with a hard-fought 58-50 road victory.
WLC heated up in the second half as it shot 40.7 percent
(11-for-27) from the floor, and made 11 of its 13 free throw
attempts. Dillon paced all scorers with 14 second-half points. The
Eagles, who led by as many as six points (34-28) early in the
second half, shot 32 percent (8-for-25) in the period.
The first half was slow to develop as the score was tied 7-7 at
the 13:28 mark. The Warriors, who led for most of the first half,
held their largest lead of the period at 16-11 with 9:51 remaining.
EC then used an 11-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 22-19
lead. WLC answered with four straight, but the Eagles came back to
grab a 24-23 lead at halftime.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which was plagued with 14 turnovers and 30.4
percent (7-for-23) shooting, received seven points each from
seniors Krissy Day (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Dillon. Alison Tobin netted a first-half best seven points for
Edgewood, which shot 22.8 percent (8-for-35) in the half.
Dillon was the only Warrior to finish in double-figures, but Day
and sophomore Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) were
close behind with nine points each. Junior Melanie Laete (Spokane,
Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) tied for a game-high with 10 rebounds.
She also added eight points.
WLC overcame 25 turnovers and 36 percent (18-for-50) shooting to
win its 19th straight conference road game dating back to January
15, 2011.
Tobin finished with 16 points for the Eagles (9-10, 8-4 NAC),
while Mariah Hill joined her in double-figures with 11. Melanie
Walker grabbed 10 rebounds. EC, which committed 20 turnovers, shot
26.7 percent (16-for-60) for the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran (14-2, 9-0 NAC) begins a busy three-game week
Tuesday when it hosts Rockford (5-13, 3-7 NAC) at the Recreation
