MILWAUKEE - Senior Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee,
Wis./Hope School) scored a game-high 22 points and Wisconsin
Lutheran College held visiting Rockford to just 14 second-half
points en route to a 78-39 win Tuesday night at the Recreation
Complex.
Leading 33-25 at halftime, the Warriors opened the second half
on a 17-4 run and never looked back. WLC, which shot a blistering
56.7 percent (17-for-30) in the second half, later went on a 22-0
run over seven minutes to lead by a game-high 41 points with under
two minutes to play. Wisconsin Lutheran held Rockford to just 15.6
percent (5-for-32) shooting in the half to remain unbeaten in
league play.
Dillon, who was one rebound shy of a double-double, led the
second-half charge with 16 points as the Warriors outscored the
Regents 13-0 in points off turnovers and 24-4 in bench points.
The Warriors netted the first basket of the night, and despite
the Regents hanging tight for most of the first half, the hosts
never trailed. The Regents kept within six points for the first
11:57 of the half before WLC gained its largest lead of the half at
eight points, 26-18. Rockford came back to cut its deficit to four,
but Wisconsin Lutheran increased its lead back up to eight, 33-25,
at the break.
Junior Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) paced
the Warriors with eight points in the first half. WLC was 12-for-27
from the floor in the frame for 44.4 percent. For the Regents, Erin
Ryczek tallied a first-half best 10 points. Despite just 31 percent
(9-for-29) shooting in the half, the Regents remained within eight
due in large part to a 13-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
Laete joined Dillon in double-figures with 10 points, while also
adding nine rebounds. Dillon also recorded five assists and three
steals. As a team, the Warriors shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) for
the game and tied a season-high with 19 steals.
Ryczek scored 14 points to pace the Regents (5-14, 3-8 NAC), who
shot just 23.0 percent (14-for-61) for the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran (15-2, 10-0 NAC) continues its busy week of
conference games Thursday when it travels to Lisle, Ill., to face
Benedictine (9-9, 7-3 NAC). Tip-time between the Warriors and
