MILWAUKEE - An early 17-2 run propelled the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to a 69-58 win Saturday as it fought off a pesky Lakeland Muskies team on 1,000-Point Scorers Day at the Recreation Complex.

The Warriors came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, shooting 50 percent (14-for-28) from the field and 40 percent (4-for-10) from the three-point line. Senior Krissy Day's (West Allis, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) three-pointer with 15:46 left to play sparked a 17-2 Warriors run that lasted nearly six and a half minutes. The run built up a 15-point cushion for the Warriors, but a Muskies 9-0 run managed to claw them back into things finishing out the half trailing 33-22. Senior Shavon Dillon (Milwaukee, Wis./Hope School) led the Warriors with 10 points in the first half.

The second half was a battle as the Warriors tried to hold off several Lakeland surges. The Warriors were able to fend off the Muskies with the outstanding play in the post. Junior Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran), senior Carrie Thoma (Richfield, Wis./Hartford Union), and sophomore Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) combined for a total of 26 points in the second half (13, 7, and 6 points respectively).

The Warriors spread out their scoring as three separate players reached double-figures. Laete recorded 17 points, Dillon followed with 14 points, and Schulz rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10. Schulz's 10 rebounds and six blocks wrapped up her double-double performance. Junior Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and Thoma contributed nine points each to help the Warriors to their win. Dillon and Laete each pulled down seven rebounds. The Warriors shot 48.2 percent (27-for-56) for the game.

Lakeland (8-13, 6-8 NAC) was led by Leah Eisner who scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Beck Mayo tallied a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dana Henrichs also contributed 12 points. The Muskies shot 34.3 percent (23-for-67) for the game.

Wisconsin Lutheran (17-2, 12-0 NAC) will travel to River Forest, Ill., Wednesday to take on Concordia Chicago (7-13, 7-5 NAC). The game is set to tip-off at Geiseman Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Live audio, stats, and video will be provided for the game and can be accessed at wlcsports.com.
