MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team secured a pivotal Northern Athletics Conference victory Tuesday night, defeating South Division opponent Dominican, 76-63, at the Recreation Complex.

Sophomore guard Sam Kuehl (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) hit a jump shot on the Warriors' opening possession of the game and the Warriors never trailed from the opening tip Tuesday.

The Warriors and Stars played very evenly throughout the first 15 minutes of play as Wisconsin Lutheran held a 22-21 lead with five minutes left in the first half. It was all WLC for the remainder of the first half, however, as it ended the period on a 13-0 run. The first five of those points came from senior Tim Demuth (Franksville, Wis./Racine Lutheran) as WLC took a 35-21 lead into halftime.

The Warriors scorched the nets in the opening half as they connected on 57.1 percent (16-for-28) of their first-half shots. Demuth led a balanced first-half attack for Wisconsin Lutheran with eight points. Dominican shot just 32.1 percent (9-for-28) in the first 20 minutes.

It was the visiting Stars who came out strong in the second half as they surged out on a quick 7-0 run, cutting the Warriors lead to 35-28 with 17:56 left in the game. WLC pushed the lead back to 14 points at 46-32 with 15:20 left thanks to back-to-back three-point baskets by Demuth and freshman Randy Strutz (Sturtevant, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran).

The Wisconsin Lutheran lead hovered around the 10-point mark until Dominican cut the margin to six at 61-55 with six minutes left in the contest. DU brought the score to 62-57 with 4:36 remaining, but the Warriors rallied off an 8-2 run, capped off by a senior Nate Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) three-pointer for a 70-59 advantage with 2:23 left in the game. The Warriors had little trouble closing out from that point as they went on to win 76-63.

WLC finished the game shooting 52.7 percent (29-for-55) from the floor, and 85.7 percent (12-for-14) from the charity stripe. Dominican countered with 41.4 percent (24-for-58) shooting in the game.

Demuth finished with a team-best 17 points for the Warriors on 6-for-12 shooting. Bauer added 14 points, while sophomore Kyle Stelse (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) came off the bench to score 11 points. The WLC bench played a big part in the victory as its reserves outscored Dominican, 28-10.

Dominican (9-12, 7-6 NAC) was led by Anthony Keener's game-high 21 points, 19 of which came after halftime. Logan Harris added nine points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Stars.

Wisconsin Lutheran (9-12, 6-6 NAC) will return to action Saturday when it visits the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison, Wis., for a showdown with Edgewood (5-16, 4-8 NAC). Tip-off between the Warriors and Eagles is set for 4:15 p.m. Fans can follow the action live via audio, stats, and video at wlcsports.com.
