Box Score MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team never trailed in any sets on its way to a sweep of Alverno Saturday afternoon at Reiman Gymnasium. WLC won 25-17, 27-25, and 25-22.
The Warriors (8-21, 4-5 NACC) controlled set one, owning a 10-point lead three separate times, including set point at 24-14. Following a brief three point rally by the Inferno (10-12, 1-8 NACC), Jeni Polzin (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) put the set away with a kill to make the final 25-17.
WLC never relinquished the lead in set two, but met more resistance as the two teams battled to a 25-25 tie. The Warriors took advantage of two consecutive Alverno attack errors to take the set 27-25.
The Warriors pushed their way to a 15-8 advantage in the third set, in which they hit a match-best .233. With WLC holding match point at 24-22, Alverno committed an attack error, completing the WLC sweep.
Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) hit .263 for the match and led the Warriors with 12 kills. Alexis Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) led all players with 32 assists, while Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Mindy Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) added 14 digs apiece.
Cali Trepp had a double-double for the Inferno, totaling 11 kills and 16 digs.
WLC (8-21, 4-5 NACC) next plays at Rockford (3-19, 1-8 NACC) Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
