Box Score AURORA, Ill. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team suffered its second straight conference defeat Saturday, falling in heartbreaking five-set fashion to Aurora at Thornton Gymnasium.
The Warriors dropped the opening set to the Spartans 25-22, but came back to take the next two by scores of 26-24 and 25-20. A 25-20 fourth-set win by AU tied the match up at 2-2, sending the contest to a decisive fifth set. The teams had to play beyond the 15th point before the match was decided, and the Spartans prevailed over the Warriors, 19-17.
Leading the Warriors offensive attack was Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) who collected a career-best 25 kills for a .512 hitting percentage. Linda Kenyon (Stevensville, Mich./Michigan Lutheran) and Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also reached double-digit kill totals with 15 and 13, respectively. Alexis Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) contributed to the offensive attack with her match-high 45 assists.
Defensively for WLC, Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) recorded 27 digs to lead three players in double figures. Erin Greenfield added 12 digs for a double-double, and Megan Wierzbicki (Hartford, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) chipped in with 10.
The Spartans (10-11, 3-1 NACC) received 22 kills and 29 digs from Andrea Kappelman. Lexi O'Boyle also added 40 assists and 16 digs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-19, 2-3 NACC) is back in action Tuesday when it visits Maranatha (14-7) for a 7 p.m. non-conference match in Watertown.
