Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Bears Invitational Saturday at the WU Field House. The Warriors fell 3-0 to host and eighth-ranked Washington (Mo.) before defeating Michigan-Dearborn 3-2. They finished the regular season with a record of 10-23 and 5-6 in conference play.
Wisconsin Lutheran dropped the first match of the day 21-25, 14-25, 9-25 to Washington. Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, contributed 18 of the Warriors' 22 assists. Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) posted six kills and five digs and Linda Kenyon (Stevensville, Mich./Michigan Lutheran) added five kills. Megan Wierzbicki (Hartford, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) led WLC with 9 digs.
Caroline Dupont led the Bears with 10 kills. Kalehua Katagiri finished with 12 digs and Cassie Wang had 18 assists.
The second match went the distance as the Warriors rallied back after dropping the first set 25-18. WLC came back to win the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-19 before falling 25-19 in the fourth to force a fifth set. The decisive set required two extra points after being tied at 15, as the Warriors pulled it out 17-15.
Greenfield (17 kills, 10 digs) and Ridgeman (47 assists, 13 digs) each posted double-doubles in the victory. Wierzbicki recorded 35 digs in the match and Heather Tompkins (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) finished with 20 digs. Kenyon added 11 kills and Abby Himm (Grand Blanc, Mich./Homeschooled) had 12 kills.
WLC (10-23, 5-6 NACC) will begin its fifth consecutive NACC Tournament when it travels to face Dominican (21-9, 10-1 NACC) Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
