Warriors Edge Spartans, 5-4, In Madison

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team defeated Dubuque (5-8) in non-conference action Saturday, 5-4, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The match was tied after singles competition, with each team picking up three wins. Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) edged out Nichole Schmaltz in No. 1 singles, 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. At No. 2 singles, Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) defeated Stephanie LoCasto, 6-3, 6-3 to give the Warriors their second win of the day. Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph) also earned a victory at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Pearson and Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) narrowly defeated Schmaltz and Aoi Karino, 9-8. Strehlow and Bonnin claimed an easy 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the match with WLC's fifth win.

The Warriors (12-6) face Beloit (6-11) and St. Norbert (7-12) in their final regular season matches April 20 in New Berlin, Wis. The first match is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Moorland Park Tennis Center.
