Warriors Close Out Regular Season With Two Wins

GLENDALE, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team took to the court twice today to defeat Beloit College (6-12) 9-0 and St. Norbert College (7-13) 5-4.

In the first match of the day against Beloit, Kaitlyn Strehlow (Hales Corners, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) set the tone early by defeating Trina Capelli 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles. Emily Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) followed suit, winning 6-2, 6-1 over BC's Maria Mears. At No. 3 singles, Kathryn Hendee (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) overcame Emma Beck, 6-0, 6-3. Alyssa Strangstalien (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) did not drop a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles over Alex Hinck. Paola Schnabel of Beloit, was unable to stop Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph), falling 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Terri Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) finished the singles sweep at No. 6 by defeating Melissa Mueller, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action, the team of Pearson and Strangstalien defeated Capelli and Hinck 9-8 at No. 1. In No. 2 doubles play, Strehlow and Bonnin topploed Mears and Beck, 8-3. Hendee and Glasel completed the sweep of Beloit by winning over Schnabel and Rosenwinkel, 8-0.

In the second match of the day versus the Green Knights, Hendee picked up WLC's first win, downing Ariel Bloniarz 7-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Bonnin earned a hard fought win at No. 5 singles over Emily Rasmussen, 7-5, 2-6, 10-8. Glasel picked up the final victory in singles play, defeating Maria Dzurik 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles action, WLC picked up the final two wins as Strehlow and Bonnin defeated Bloniarz and Rasmussen 8-2 at No. 2, and the team of Hendee and Glasel blanked Tews and Dzurik 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

The second-seeded Warriors (14-6) will next compete in the semifinal round of the Northern Athletics Conference Team Tournament on May 4 at the Sports Core Health & Racquet Club in Kohler, Wis.
