Box Score 2 CHICAGO - The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team was defeated in its final two matches at the Gargoyle Classic Saturday, falling to No. 17 Christopher Newport, 3-1, and Millikin, 3-0.
The Warriors took the opening set from the Captains, winning 25-23. CNU responded, however, with three consecutive set victories by scores of 25-9, 25-21, and 25-18. WLC began the match by hitting .241 in the opening set, but struggled hitting in sets two (-.148) and three (.156). In the fourth set, WLC hit a much-improved .281.
All-Tournament Team selection Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) notched a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Alayna Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) hit .375 as she also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 15 assists. Alexis Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) dished out a match-best 22 assists. Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Jeni Polzin (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) tallied 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
Hannah Miller and Abby McIntyre had 12 kills apiece for CNU (9-6). Paxton Crooks was credited with 20 assists.
In its final match of the weekend, WLC dropped a three-set affair to Millikin 25-19, 25-19, and 25-13. Erin Greenfield had eight kills to lead the Warriors. Alexis Hafemeister totaled 17 assists and Ridgeman registered eight digs. The Warriors hit .144 for the match, opposed to Millikin's impressive .338.
Audrey Krajec totaled 14 kills to lead the Big Blue (10-6). Emily Mihalkanin had 29 assists.
The Warriors (3-14, 1-1 NACC) return to conference action Tuesday when they host Marian (5-8, 0-1 NACC) at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Complex.
