Box Score MILWAUKEE - After playing 16 of its first 17 matches away from the friendly confines of the Recreation Complex, the Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team took full advantage of its homecourt Tuesday, defeating Marian 3-1 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match. The win snapped the Warriors' 10-match losing skid as they improved to 2-1 in the NACC.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead after the first set, topping the Sabres 25-18. Marian returned the favor in set two, tying the match with a 25-19 victory. Set three swung back in WLC's favor as it won 25-20. In set four, the Warriors put the match away with a 25-15 defeat over MU.
Erin Greenfield (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) and Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led WLC with 15 kills each, while Jeni Polzin (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) added 11 kills on an impressive .556 attack percentage. Kayla Ridgeman (Jefferson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) tallied 19 digs, with Megan Wierzbicki (Hartford, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) totaling 14. Alexis Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) finished with 46 assists, 12 digs, and three service aces.
Casey Lamberty led Marian (5-9, 0-2 NACC) with nine kills and 11 digs. Kathryn Braunling also added nine kills, and Katrina Jansen had 16 digs.
The Warriors (4-14, 2-1 NACC) will travel to Wisconsin Dells Friday and Saturday for the NACC/IIAC Challenge at Just a Game Fieldhouse. WLC will play Simpson (8-2) and Luther (8-7) at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.
