Warriors Cruise To Eighth Straight Win

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) recorded her eight double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds to propel the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to its eighth straight victory in a 69-38 win over Aurora Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Complex.

WLC (9-3, 7-1 NACC) fell behind 6-0 just under four minutes into the game and didn't dent the scoreboard until a three-pointer by Melissa Klemm (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) with 14:01 left in the opening half. That sparked a 28-9 run that allowed the Warriors to open up a 28-15 lead at halftime. WLC held the lead despite being out-rebounded 23-12 in the first half. The Warriors out-shot Aurora (6-8, 5-4 NACC) 42-25 percent and forced 12 turnovers, which they converted into 13 first-half points.

The Warriors began to pull away as they started the second half on a 16-5 run to take a 44-20 lead on a three-point play by Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) with 14:03 to play. WLC pushed the lead as high as 32 on Kelli Johnson's (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) layup with 1:35 remaining to make it 68-36.

The Warriors shot 51.9 percent (14-for-27) in the second half. Schulz scored 12 points in the half and Laete added 11 to pace WLC.

Laete finished with 15 points and Klemm added 14 points on 4-for-7 from three-point range to join Schulz in double figures. Neely Marks led the Spartans with nine points and Bethany Dorrington chipped in six points and matched a game-high with 11 rebounds.

WLC out-shot Aurora 47-31 percent and held the Spartans to 0-for-12 shooting from beyond the arc. The Warriors held a 24-4 advantage in points off turnovers.

Wisconsin Lutheran hits the road Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game at Concordia Chicago (0-13, 0-10 NACC). Live audio, stats, and video will be available on wlcsports.com.
