Box Score MILWAUKEE – The Wisconsin Lutheran College volleyball team pushed Aurora to five sets but fell just shy of its first victory of the season in a hard-fought 3-2 (23-25, 25-12, 25-8, 23-25, 15-12) loss Saturday afternoon at the Recreation Complex.
WHERE THEY STAND
- The Warriors dropped to 0-15 overall and 0-5 in the NACC, while the Spartans jumped to 17-7 and 3-1 in NACC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After dropping the first point of the opening set, WLC never trailed the rest of the way, and won the set 25-23 on a kill by Haley Feucht (Campbellsport, Wis./Campbellsport).
- The Spartans hit .343 in the second set and won eight straight points to close the set to win it by a score of 25-12.
- Aurora kept the streak going by winning the first five points of the third set and rolled to a 25-8 rout.
- WLC bounced back in the fourth set, hitting .235 and never trailing on its way to a 25-23 win, capped by a kill by Andrea Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West).
- The decisive fifth set featured five ties, but the Spartans won four of the final five points to pull away with a 15-12 victory to win the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Aurora outhit WLC .228 to .066 for the match. Each team racked up eight blocks.
- Feucht notched a double-double with a team-high 14 kills to go along with 15 digs, and Andrea Hafemeister also registered a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs.
- Nicole Klipstein (Hartford, Wis./Hartford) posted 10 kills and a team-high five block assists.
- Alexis Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) passed out a match-high 41 assists and Megan Wierzbicki (Hartford, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) recorded a match-best 26 digs.
- Peyton McKenzie (23 kills, 12 digs) and Brooke Pylant (13 kills, 23 digs) each contributed double-doubles for the Spartans. Lexi O'Boyle dished out 29 assists and Destiny Stuersel added 20 helpers.
