MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team opened its 2014 regular and conference season with a 6-3 setback to Alverno Friday afternoon at McKinley Park.
The Warriors took the first match at No. 1 doubles as Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph) and Paige Potaracke (La Crosse, Wis./Onalaska Luther) were victorious 8-2. The Inferno countered with a pair of close victories by winning 9-8 at No. 2 and 8-6 at No. 3.
Potaracke and Kayln Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) each claimed wins for WLC during singles play. Potaracke won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, while Geddes captured a 6-1, 7-6 win at No. 3. Alverno (1-0, 1-0 NACC) came out ahead at No. 1, 4, and 6 singles to spoil the Warriors' season opener.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1, 0-1 NACC) plays a pair of non-conference road matches on Labor Day against Lawrence (9:30 a.m.) and Beloit (4 p.m.).
