WAUWATOSA, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team closed out its fall season Saturday afternoon by claiming a pair of wins over both Marian (8-1) and MSOE (5-4) on Parents' Day at Hart Park. The Warriors finish their fall season 5-6 overall and 4-6 for seventh in the NACC.
The Warriors opened their final day of fall competition by sweeping all three doubles matches from the Sabres (1-11, 0-9 NACC). Kayln Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) and Paige Potaracke (La Crosse, Wis./Onalaska Luther) were 8-3 winners at No. 1, Bethany Soderlund (De Pere, Wis../Fox Valley Lutheran) and Tabitha Schultz (Spokane, Wash./Luther Preparatory) swept No. 2, 8-0, and Amanda Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Emily Boyd (Lebanon, Wis./Luther Preparatory) collected an 8-2 win at No. 3.
WLC won five of six singles flights in straight sets. Potaracke (6-1, 6-3), Geddes (6-4, 6-4), Soderlund (6-3, 6-1), Pearson (6-2, 6-4), and Schultz (6-1, 6-2) picked up victories at No. 1 through No. 5, respectively.
In its afternoon contest with the Raiders (2-13, 2-8 NACC), WLC dropped two close matches at No. 1 and 2 doubles by identical 8-6 scores. Pearson and Boyd teamed at No. 3 to salvage an 8-1 win.
MSOE was winners at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but the tide turned after that as WLC won the last four flights of singles play to come out ahead. Pearson won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, Schultz was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at No. 5, and Boyd swept her match at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0. Soderlund took the decisive match at No. 3 by winning in a thrilling three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
