Box Score MILWAUKEE - Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) tallied 22 points, 18 rebounds, and seven blocks to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team past Concordia Wisconsin 55-44 Thursday night at the Recreation Complex.
WHERE THEY STAND
- The Warriors won their 12th straight game, including the 10th straight over their rivals, to improve to 13-3 overall and 11-1 in the NACC. The Falcons fell to 13-4 overall and 10-4 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons' only lead of the game was brief, 2-0, before the Warriors responded by taking a 17-5 lead with 9:30 left in the first half.
- CUW answered back with a 14-2 run to close the half and knot the score at 19-19 at halftime. The Warriors were held without a field goal for the final 9:30 of the first half.
- WLC, the nation's top shooting team, shot 30.8 percent (8-for-26) from the field in the opening period. CUW went for 32.0 percent (8-for-25).
- The Warriors, who trailed for only the first :29 seconds of the game, opened the second half on a 15-6 run to take a 34-25 lead with 15:36 remaining.
- Concordia came as close as five points twice, but could get no closer over the final 13:34. WLC grabbed a game-high 13-point lead at 52-39 with under six minutes to play after Christel Frey's (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) three-point play.
- Wisconsin Lutheran held CUW scoreless for the final 4:04 en route to its 35th straight home win over a conference opponent.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Schulz recorded her nation-leading 15th double-double of the season. It was her fifth game this year with at least seven blocks.
- Frey was the other Warrior to reach double-figures with 11 points, the 10th time in her last 11 games that she's posted double-digits.
- The Warriors improved immensely from the floor in the second half, shooting 57.7 percent to finish at 44.2 percent (23-for-52) for the game. The Falcons finished at 32.2 percent (19-for-59) for the game.
- The Forest Green out-rebounded CUW 40-30. The Falcons out-scored the Warriors 11-2 in points off turnovers.
- WLC's 55 points were a season low, but the 44 points allowed were the fourth-lowest of the season.
- Megan Coenen scored 11 points and Audrey Scharmer tallied 10 for the Falcons.
UP NEXT
- The Warriors play their fourth game in eight days when they travel to Benedictine (10-6, 10-1 NACC) Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown with the only other one-loss team in the league.
