Schulz Shines As Warriors Coast Past Cougars

MILWAUKEE - Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) scored a game-high 31 points and collected 18 rebounds to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to an 83-57 win over Concordia Chicago Saturday in front of a large Winterfest crowd at the Recreation Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors raced out to an early 8-1 lead and later led 20-3 with 12:52 left in the first half.
  • The Cougars came as close as 11 points before two Warriors scoring runs of 8-0 and 11-0 gave WLC its largest lead of the first half at 41-16. WLC went into the locker room with a 43-20 lead.
  • CUC scored the first six points of the second half and cut its deficit to 15 points (46-31) with 15:11 to play.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran later used a 9-0 run to build a 67-38 lead and had a game-high 30-point lead twice under the final 6:05.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • The Warriors finished the game shooting 48.2 percent (27-for-56). while the Cougars shot just 30.2 percent (19-for-63).
  • Schulz posted her 20th double-double of the season, just two shy of the 22 she finished the season with a year ago.
  • Joining Schulz in double-figures were Maggie Gartner (Springdale, Ark./Har-Ber) and Bethany Unkefer (Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran), who added 12 and 10 points each.
  • WLC dominated the rebounding category, 53-31, as Schulz (18), Gartner (9), and Christel Frey (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran (9) combined for 36 of the team's season-high rebounding total.
  • The Forest Green and White scored over 80 points for the third straight game and ninth time this season.
  • Jaela DeJean scored 15 points to lead the Cougars. Morgan Jahnke added 10 points.
  • With MSOE's 70-61 win over Benedictine, WLC takes over sole possession of first place in the NACC.
  • The Warriors extended their winning streak to 36 straight games over conference opponents at the REX.

UP NEXT
