PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team traveled to the Grand Canyon state to take on 10th-ranked Arizona Christian on Tuesday afternoon. The undefeated Firestorm defeated the Warriors 8-1 at the Phoenix Tennis Center.
The Warriors fell short in their opening doubles matches to begin play as the Firestorm (13-0), who are ranked 10th in NAIA, earned wins of 8-0, 8-0, and 8-2, respectively.
In singles play, ACU recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 1 through No. 3. Tabitha Schultz (Spokane, Wash./Luther Preparatory) collected Wisconsin Lutheran's victory at No. 5 by winning a shortened eight-game pro set 8-6. Emily Boyd (Lebanon, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Emily Goetz (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) won two games each at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, but dropped their other set 6-0.
The Warriors (5-7) play another match in Arizona Wednesday against NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State (2-9) at the Phoenix Tennis Center. The match begins at 11:30 a.m. CST time.
