Women's Tennis Tops Marian For Fifth Straight Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team defeated Marian 5-4 on Wednesday at Buttermilk Creek Park. With the victory, the Warriors recorded their fifth straight and third in a row to open the NACC season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Warriors opened the match by taking two of three in doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles, Paige Potaracke (La Crosse, Wis./Luther) and Kalyn Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) won 8-4. In the final flight of doubles, Katarina Volkmann (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and Natalie Anderson (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) collected an 8-2 win.
• Entering the final two matches of singles competition, the Sabres held the advantage. Leading the comeback was Emily Boyd (Lebanon, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Volkmann. Volkmann won in straight sets at No. 6, 6-4, 6-0, and Boyd clinched the Warriors' victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 triumph at No. 5. Geddes also won earlier in singles play, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2.

• WLC continues conference play on Saturday when it hosts Aurora (2-4, 2-2 NACC) at Hart Park. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. The Spartans' last match resulted in a 9-0 non-conference loss to Judson on Wednesday night.
