Warriors Hold Off Spartans In Home Opener, Win Sixth Straight

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team won its sixth straight match with a 5-4 conference victory over Aurora at Hart Park in its home opener on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• In doubles play, Katarina Volkmann (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and Natalie Anderson (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) posted the only victory in doubles competition with an 8-5 win at No. 3.
• After trailing 3-1 following the first match in singles, the Warriors won the next two matches at No. 2 and No. 3 to even the match. Kalyn Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) started the comeback with a straight set victory, 6-3, 6-2. Tabitha Schultz (Spokane, Wash./Luther Preparatory) evened up the score with her own straight set win, 7-5, 6-2.
• Anderson kept the Warriors alive as she dominated the final singles match, sweeping 6-0, 6-0. 
• With a winner-take-all match at No. 5, Emily Boyd (Lebanon, Wis./Luther Preparatory) collected hard fought three-set victory 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 to send the Warriors to victory. 
• With the dual victory, WLC extended its winning streak to six matches, including four straight to begin conference play.

UP NEXT

• WLC continues conference play on Sunday when it hosts defending NACC championi Edgewood (5-4, 4-0 NACC) at Hart Park. The match is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. The Eagles won two conference matches on Saturday, defeating Marian 9-0 and then completing the sweep with an 8-1 win over Lakeland.
