Warriors Control Cougars For Senior Night Win

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team capitalized on mistakes as it won on Senior Night against Concordia Chicago 3-1 by scores of 25-13, 25-14, 20-25, and 27-25 to win its third straight NACC match at the Recreation Complex on Friday night.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Wisconsin Lutheran 3, Concordia Chicago 1
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (12-14, 4-6 NACC), Concordia Chicago (4-21, 3-7 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors came out strong on a 5-1 run. After the Cougars brought the score to within three at 12-9, WLC went on an 11-3 run to take a controlling 23-12 lead. WLC took advantage of eight attack errors by CUC and used an impressvie .458 attack percentage.
  • After the start of the second set went back-and-forth, WLC went on a 10-3 run to break out to a 15-7 lead. CUC never got within six points down the stretch as the Warriors took a convincing 2-0 lead in the match. WLC posted 13 kills with only two errors for an impressive .478 hitting percentage. 
  • CUC took its first lead of the third set at 14-13. Concordia Chicago then used a quick 7-2 run to take the 22-16 lead and force a fourth set. 
  • WLC recovered early in the fourth, opening up an 8-2 lead. The Cougars answered and rallied quickly to eventually take a 15-14 lead. WLC opened up a 20-18 late behind three straight kills from Britley Grulke (Hustisford, Wis./Hustisford) and held on for a 27-25 fourth-set win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Courtney Pattison (Prairie du Chien, Wis./Prairie du Chien) led the way for the Warriors with a team-high 22 assists, 10 digs, and 10 kills to complete the triple-double. Heather Warskow (Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) added nine digs. 
  • Grulke recorded 15 kills to lead the team and Andrea Hafemeister (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa West) contributed nine kills to the Warriors' attack. 
  • Megan Wierzbicki (Hartford, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) led the team with 12 digs. 
  • For the Cougars, Ruiter Arendia had 12 kills, Nioletta Crowley dished out 32 assists, and Hannah Johnson had 11 digs.
  • Before the match, the Warriors recognized three seniors who played in their final home contest at the Recreation Complex; Hafemeister, Wierzbicki, and Carly Warner (Clear Lake, Wis./Clear Lake).

UP NEXT

  • The Warriors will conclude their conference schedule on the road when they travel to MSOE (4-15, 3-7 NACC) on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. start.
