Women's Basketball Falls To Bethel, 66-51

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team concluded the Paul F. Knueppel Classic with a 66-51 loss against Bethel (Minn.) on Saturday afternoon inside the Recreation Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a couple back-and-forth opening minutes, the Royals ended the opening quarter on a 13-3 run to hold a 17-7 lead after one period. Bethel shot 58.3 percent in the first quarter, compared to the Warriors' 20.0 percent.
• WLC found its stroke in the second quarter and cut the lead down to five with 3:13 left, but Bethel ended the half on a 12-2 run to keep its double-digit lead going into halftime.
• A Caitlin Knueppel (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) three-pointer cut the lead down to five with under a minute left in the third, but the Royals increased the lead to seven heading into the fourth.
• The Royals opened the final quarter on a 14-3 run and never looked back down the stretch, out-scoring the hosts 18-8 in the final quarter. Bethel shot 6-for-11 from the field in the fourth.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• For the second straight night, Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) led the Warriors in points, finishing with 18. Knueppel also reached double figures as she ended the game with 10 points.
• Maddy Elrod (Conifer, Colo./Conifer) added 10 rebounds and eight points of her own.
• The Royals capitalized on WLC's turnovers, scoring 18 points off 19 turnovers and controlled the paint, out-scoring the Warriors 40-20.
• Bethel's Taite Anderson led the way, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor for 16 points.
• Dowden was named to the Paul F. Knueppel All-Classic Team.
• In Saturday's other matchup, Carthage defeated No. 12 UW-River Falls, 74-60.

• Wisconsin Lutheran has a week off before it opens NACC play next Saturday when it plays host to MSOE (0-0) at the Recreation Complex.
