Sabres End Warriors' Season In NACC Tournament

BROOKFIELD, Wis. – Fifth-seeded Marian won two doubles matches and three singles matches over the fourth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team and handed the Warriors a 5-3 setback on Sunday in the first round of the 2016 NACC Tournament at Elite Sports Club. Marian avenged a 5-4 defeat to the Warriors earlier during the fall season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The match started on a high note for the Warriors as the doubles team of Paige Potaracke (La Crosse, Wis./Luther) and Kalyn Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) were 8-6 winners at No. 1. 
• However, the Sabres came back to take the final two doubles matches by scores of 8-5 and 8-4 for a 2-1 advantage.
• In singles action, Tabitha Schultz (Spokane, Wash./Luther Preparatory) won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Katarina Volkmann (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) was also a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 4.
• Emily Boyd (Lebanon, Wis./Luther Preparatory) suffered a tough three-set setback at No. 5, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. 
• Marian also collected singles victories at No. 1 (6-4, 6-2) and No. 6 (6-4, 6-3) and that was enough to win the match. Geddes' match at No. 2 went unfinished tied at a set apiece when the match came to a close.
• Wisconsin Lutheran, which will graduate two seniors from its roster, finishes its 2015-2016 season 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the NACC. Both the overall and conference win totals are the most in three years for WLC.
• Marian advances to face second-seeded Edgewood in the semifinals on Saturday in Madison.
