Warriors Keep NACC Tourney Bid Alive After Third Straight Win

NEW BERLIN, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team kept its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament bid alive following a 6-3 win over the Lakeland Muskies Monday night at the Princeton Club. It was the third straight win for the Warriors, who sit in fifth place in the NACC with a 5-5 record.

  • The Warriors opened the match by taking two of the three doubles flights, with Amanda Wietrzny (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Hannah Gerbing (Pewaukee, Wis.) recording an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles position, and Natalee Douangvilay (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Amanda Las (Bangor, Wis.) collecting an 8-5 triumph at the No. 3 doubles slot.
  • Gerbing tallied her second victory of the match at the No. 2 singles position, winning 6-2, 6-1, while Douangvilay (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Las (6-0, 6-0) also won their singles matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
  • Sandhya Akella (Carmel, Ind.) picked up a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 singles position for WLC's second three-set win of the day.

  • The doubles team of Wietrzny and Gerbing picked up their team-leading fifth win of the year, while Las improved her singles record to 8-3.
  • The win was the fifth straight over the Muskies as WLC now holds a 16-3 overall record against Lakeland since 2000.
  • WLC has won three straight matches to round out the fall season and has posted at least a .500 record in conference for the second straight year, which was last accomplished during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

  • The Warriors conclude the fall portion of their schedule with a 7-6 record and are currently fifth in the NACC with a 5-5 conference mark. WLC will learn of its NACC Tournament status this weekend when the remainder of the teams complete their conference schedules.
