Warriors Fall Behind Early, Drop Match To Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team fell behind early and was never able to recover as it dropped a 4-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference road match to Concordia Chicago Saturday afternoon at Concordia Stadium.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (6-7-1, 2-5-1 NACC), Concordia Chicago (8-6-0, 5-3-0 NACC)
  • Location: Concordia Stadium, River Forest, Ill.

  • The Cougars scored first, as Joel Diaz found the back of the net in the eighth minute. Gerardo Medina assisted on the goal. Diaz scored again 15 minutes later, as he beat WLC junior goalkeeper Erek Lehnen (Fort Myers, Fla.) to the lower right corner.
  • The Warriors brought the match within one when sophomore Aedon Meurer (Waukesha, Wis.) scored his second goal of the season in the 30th minute.
  • Less than five minutes before the end of the first half, the Cougars extended the lead back to two, as Alberto Arellano scored to the upper right corner.
  • One minute later, junior Jacob Bruecker (Sheboygan, Wis.) picked up his second yellow card of the game, forcing the Warriors to play a man down the remainder of the contest.
  • Early in the second half, sophomore Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) netted his eighth goal of the season to the upper corner and the Warriors brought the deficit back to 3-2.
  • CUC scored one more time in the 60th minute, as Ian Gummo pushed the score back to 4-2 and the Warriors were unable to get any closer.

  • Cano, Meurer, and freshman Trevor Millonzi (Jackson, Wis.) each finished with three shots as the Warriors attempted 11 for the match.
  • WLC placed six shots on frame and tallied four corner kicks.
  • Lehnen finished with eight saves on 12 shots faced.

  • The Cougars attempted 13 shots, with 12 ending on frame. Diaz converted both of his shots into goals, while three other players finished with two shots.
  • Goalkeeper Jose Retana stopped four of the six shots he faced to earn the victory in the net.

  • The Warriors continue their season-ending, four-match road trip when they travel to Marian (4-10-1, 1-7-0 NACC) on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. contest. Live stats and video will be available at WLCSports.com. The Sabres dropped their third straight on Saturday, falling to Rockford 2-0.
