Muskies Hand Warriors Second Conference Loss

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team dropped just its second conference match of the season on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to Lakeland in a battle of 7-1 NACC teams inside Woltzen Gymnasium. It was WLC's second 3-0 setback in conference play.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (13-10, 7-2 NACC), Lakeland (14-13, 8-1 NACC)
  • Location: Woltzen Gymnasium, Plymouth, Wis.

  • The Warriors fell behind 4-1 early in the opening set and faced an eight-point deficit when the Muskies led 16-8. WLC would get no closer than five points at 17-12 as the LU later extended its lead to as many as nine en route to a 25-17 win. Wisconsin Lutheran was held to just .022 hitting in the first set on nine errors, while Lakeland hit .263 on 13 kills.
  • WLC found itself trailing early again in the second set, as LU jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The Green and White faced a trio of seven-point deficits before coming within just one point at 23-22. However, the Muskies scored the final two points for a 25-22 win.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran sprinted out to a 7-2 advantage in the third set. The Warriors led 8-4 before the Muskies rattled off six straight for a 10-8 lead and never trailed from that point on. LU led 15-11 and then went on a 7-2 scoring run to pull away and win the third set 25-16.

  • Sophomore Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) paced the Warriors with seven kills, while junior Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) added six.
  • Freshman Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) and sophomore Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) recorded 14 and 10 assists, respectively. Johnson added a team-high 12 digs for a double-double.
  • Junior Grace Tomhave (Lake Mills, Wis.) totaled four block assists for WLC.
  • The Warriors were held to a .016 hitting percentage, their second-lowest output of the season.

  • Megan Goeser and Abby Baumgartner collected 10 kills each to lead the Muskies. Neenah Primas posted a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs. LU finished with a .214 hitting percentage for the match.

  • The Warriors begin their regular season-ending six-match homestand on Friday when they host cross-town NACC foe MSOE (8-18, 3-7 NACC). First serve for the Senior Night matchup is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for the contest at WLCSports.com.
