Warriors Sweep Cougars, Stars In NACC Finales

HARTLAND, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team earned a pair of 9-0 sweeps on Saturday against Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponents Concordia Chicago and Dominican. The wins were the Warriors' first two 9-0 sweeps over the season. WLC can clinch its third straight berth in the NACC Tournament pending outcomes of other conference matches within the week.

  • The Warriors eased through doubles play against the Cougars by taking all three matches. Amanda Wietrzny (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Hannah Gerbing (Pewaukee, Wis.) started things off at No. 1 with an 8-1 win. Sandhya Akella (Carmel, Ind.) and Reebee Ratkowski (Waterford, Wis.) won 8-4 at No. 2, and Madeleine Steber (Green Bay, Wis.) and Amanda Las (Bangor, Wis.) capped doubles action with another 8-1 win.
  • WLC proceeded to win the remaining six singles contests, including five in straight sets. Hannah Gerbing, Akella, Ratkowski, Las, Steber, and Olivia Gerbing (Pewaukee, Wis.) all were victorious at No. 1 through No. 6.
  • Akella picked up a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 2, while Olivia Gerbing won her first collegiate match in three sets at No. 6, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran took care of business in its final match of the day with the Stars. Hannah Gerbing and Ratkowski teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Akella and Las blanked their opponents 8-0 at No. 2, and Olivia Gerbing and Steber came away with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
  • The Warriors also claimed straight set victories in all six singles matches. Wietrzny, Hannah Gerbing, Ratkowski, and Steber each swept their opponent by 6-0, 6-0 results.

  • The Warriors won their ninth straight match over Concordia Chicago and fifth straight over Dominican in the all-time series.
  • Las won her team-leading eighth singles match of the season and improved to 6-2 in conference play.
  • Wietrzny and Olivia Gerbing picked up their first singles wins of the season.

  • The Warriors play their final fall season match next Sunday, October 13 against Beloit (2-6). The non-conference dual starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Bucs' Strong Complex Tennis Courts.
