Career High From Mace Leads Warriors Past Stars

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Sophomore Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) scored a game and career-high 25 points to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to a 60-51 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Dominican Saturday afternoon inside the Recreation Complex. With the win, the Warriors improved to a perfect 32-0 all-time against the Stars.

  • The Warriors tied the game for the first time at 6-6 following a layup from sophomore Morgan Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) at the 6:19 mark of the opening quarter. WLC trailed 11-9 after a pair of Stars free throws with 3:08 left, but closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run for a 17-11 lead after first 10 minutes. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 60 percent in the first quarter as Mace knocked down two of the teams' three triples in the period.
  • Mace scored the Warriors' first four points of the second quarter from the charity stripe, but WLC didn't covert its first goal until 4:36 left before halftime on junior Amanda Brug's (Sturtevant, Wis.) layup for a 23-15 lead. Mace added four more free throws in the period to give WLC its largest lead of the game at 25-15 before taking a 27-19 lead into halftime despite shooting just 1-for-9 from the floor in the frame.
  • WLC built its largest lead of the third quarter at 32-23 after a Mace three at the 7:30 mark. After DU cut the deficit back to five, sophomore Ally Gough's (Horicon, Wis.) three-pointer with 2:49 left gave the Green and White another nine-point lead at 39-30. The hosts held onto a 40-35 lead through three quarters after the Stars out-scored the Warriors in their only quarter of the game.
  • Dominican came within three points in the first 0:30 seconds of the fourth quarter, but senior Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) connected on her first of three triples in the period to give the Warriors a 45-37 lead with 7:11 remaining. Another three from senior Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.) at the 5:04 mark tied WLC's largest lead of the quarter at 48-39. The Stars brought their deficit within six points with 4:30 to play, but another three from Kelly Tramburg pushed the hosts' lead back to nine. Tramburg would knock down another from beyond the arc and Wisconsin Lutheran 4-for-6 from the free throw line to win its third straight game.

  • Mace led all scorers, and two Warriors in double figures, with a career-high 25 points on three three-pointers and 12 points from the charity stripe. She also dished out a game-high four assists.
  • Brug was the second player in double figures with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
  • WLC shot 40 percent (18-for-45) from the floor and a solid 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from three-point range.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran remained unbeaten all-time against Dominican, as it now leads the series 32-0.

  • Timiya Ray was the only Stars' player to reach double figures with 20 points. Dominican was held to 26.8 percent (15-for-56) shooting and just 23.1 percent (3-for-13) from beyond the arc. DU dominated the glass over WLC, 46-29, including 21-8 on the offensive glass.
