Cano's Brace Boosts Warriors In Season-Opening Shutout

RIPON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Sophomore Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) netted a pair of second-half goals and sophomore Justin Kuffler (Moline, Wis.) added another as the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team broke open a scoreless halftime tie en route to a 3-0 non-conference win over Ripon Friday afternoon at Prairie Field. The win was the Warriors' fifth straight opening win on the road.

  • The Warriors put seven shots on frame in the opening half, but couldn't find the back of the net despite out-shooting the Red Hawks 12-1.
  • Cano connected on his first goal of the season in the 59th minute when he fired a shot to the right of the keeper to break a scoreless match.
  • The reigning NACC Freshman of the Year struck again less than four minutes later when he dribbled past a defender and finished on an assist from freshman Jake Semenske (West Bend, Wis.).
  • WLC added an insurance tally to its total in the 71st minute when Kuffler scored off an assist from freshman Trevor Millonzi (Jackson, Wis.).

  • Cano finished with a game-high 11 shots and six on target for the match. His two goals gives him 17 for his career. Kuffler netted his third career goal.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran totaled 22 shots, including 14 on frame.
  • Junior goalkeeper Erek Lehnen (Fort Myers, Fla.) made two saves and faced six shots to earn his eighth career shutout.
  • WLC has not dropped a decision to Ripon over their last four meetings.
