Warriors Complete Perfect Weekend In Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team rolled to a pair of non-conference sweeps over Olivet and Augustana (Ill.) Saturday to complete a perfect 4-0 weekend at the UW-Platteville Invitational. The Warriors won all 12 sets over the two days as junior Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) and sophomore Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) were represented on the All-Tournament Team.

  • The Warriors trailed 13-7 in the opening set against Olivet, but rallied with a 9-2 scoring run to take the lead by one. WLC closed the set on a 6-1 run to win the opener 25-18.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran held a 15-11 lead in the second set only to see the Comets come back with five straight points. Trailing 20-19, the Green and White ended the set on a 6-2 run for the 25-22 win.
  • The third set featured 13 ties as neither team held more than a two-point lead until it was 18-15 in favor of WLC. The Warriors broke a 19-19 tie with two straight points and ended up winning the match in three 25-22.
  • The Warriors trailed 13-9 in the first set to the Vikings before they rattled off six straight points to take the lead and never trail again. WLC broke an 18-18 tie with a 7-1 run to close out the set 25-19.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran hit a match-best .375 in the second set and used two separate 6-0 scoring runs to win the set going away 25-9.
  • The Green and White faced an 8-2 deficit in the third set and tied the contest five times before scoring the final four points of the set for the 25-23 win.

  • Junior Grace Tomhave (Lake Mills, Wis.) tied a match high with 10 kills vs. Olivet. Freshmen Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) dished out 18 assists and Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) recorded 23 digs. Alyssa Charron and sophomore Abby Raasch (Stillwater, Minn.) added five and four block assists, respectively.
  • Freshman Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) and Mercedes Pye led WLC with seven kills each in the win over the Vikings. Sarles passed out 12 assists and Dayton Pye (Zion, Ill.) had a trio of service aces. Goba and Mercedes Pye racked up 21 and 11 digs, respectively.

  • Morgan Champion had 10 kills, Kennedy Blackburn registered 15 assists, and Gabrielle Mundt added 14 digs for the Comets, who were unbeaten entering the weekend.
  • Grace Bialobok led Augustana with nine kills in the latter match. Olivia Doak dished out 14 assists and Jessica Nguyen had 11 digs. The Vikings were held to .000 hitting in the match with 25 kills and 25 attack errors.

  • After playing 11 matches on the road to start the season, the Warriors are home Wednesday when they host Rockford (6-7) for their home and conference opener inside the Recreation Complex.
