Warriors Sweep Sabres, Move To 2-0 In NACC

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team moved to 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference after sweeping Marian Tuesday evening inside Sadoff Gym. It was the Warriors' fifth straight win over the Sabres.

  • Final Score: Wisconsin Lutheran 3, Marian 0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (7-8, 2-0 NACC), Marian (3-11, 0-2 NACC)
  • Location: Sadoff Gym, Fond du Lac, Wis.

  • The Warriors started quickly, jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the first set as Marian took a timeout to regroup. WLC continued to hold the advantage for much of the set, carrying a 21-13 lead until the Sabres found some success, closing the gap to 24-23. But Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) ended the rally with a kill to give the Warriors the opening-set win.
  • Marian started strong in the second set, racing out to a 7-3 lead. The Warriors responded however, going on a 16-6 run to take control of the set. Once again, the Sabres found some momentum late, but WLC held on for a 25-21 win.
  • The third set started out all Warriors, as they held leads of 6-0 and 10-1 early. For the third time, however, Marian made a late run, closing the gap to just three at 22-19. But the Warriors earned the win after a couple Sabres errors helped WLC pick up the 25-21 win and second straight conference sweep.

  • Mercedes Pye paced the Warriors with 10 kills, closely followed by Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) and Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) who finished with eight and seven kills, respectively.
  • Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) collected 20 assists, the sixth time this season she has reached the 20-assist mark. Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) added 14 assists.
  • Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) led the team with 23 digs, tying a season high, and reaching the 20+ dig mark for the fourth time on the season. She also added three service aces.

  • Sara Komosa and Erika Horstman each finished with 11 kills to pace the Sabres. Amber Yahr led the team with 27 assists and Andrea Miller added 13 digs.

  • The Warriors return to action next Tuesday when they host Maranatha (8-2) in a non-conference matchup. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with live stats and video links available at WLCSports.com.
