Women's Tennis Edged In Season Opener

GLENDALE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team opened its 2020 fall regular season schedule on Saturday, falling to Milwaukee School of Engineering 5-4 in a non-conference matchup at Elite Sports Club. 

• Final Score: MSOE 5, Wisconsin Lutheran 4
• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1), MSOE (1-0)
• Location: Elite Sports Club, Glendale, Wis.

• The Warriors grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play via an 8-5 win at No. 2 from freshmen Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) and Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and a win at No. 3 from freshmen Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) and Christina Choi (Milton, Wis.).
• WLC claimed two wins in singles play. Freshman Kaytlyn Hartfield (New Holstein, Wis.) won her match at No. 1 by scores of 2-6, 6-4, and 11-9. Medema defeated her opponent at No. 2 by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.

• I was really happy with how hard the team played. Many of them were extremely impressive for not having played in two weeks. I'm excited to see how this young team grows. - Head Coach Ryan Sallmann

• The Raiders were able to come back after being down 2-1 following doubles play. They won four singles matches, capped off by Cierra Smith's 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 victory at No. 4 singles.

• The Warriors travel to Iowa tomorrow for a pair of non-conference matches against Simpson (3-2) and Cornell College (1-2) in Mount Vernon. WLC and Simpson start at 12 p.m., before the Warriors and Rams square off at 3 p.m.
