Charron Sets Kills Record As WLC Splits With CUC, IIT

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Junior Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) recorded a school-record 31 kills to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team to a 3-2 comeback win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday inside Geiseman Gymnasium. The Warriors later suffered a 3-0 sweep to Illinois Tech at the Keating Sports Center in Chicago.

  • The Warriors scored the first point of the opening set against the Cougars but shortly after found themselves staring at a 9-3 deficit. WLC closed to within 9-7, but an 8-2 scoring run gave CUC a 17-9 lead as they went on to win the first set 25-15.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the second set, only to see Concordia Chicago come back and take its first lead at 10-9 and later extend it to 17-13. The Warriors battled back to tie the set twice before scoring four of the final five points for a 25-22 win.
  • The Cougars controlled most of the third set thanks to a 6-0 scoring run that broke a 6-6 tie. The hosts scored four of the last five points for a 25-15 third set win.
  • WLC jumped out to a 6-1 lead in set four before CUC rattled off six straight of its own. The remainder of the set went back and forth, as the teams combined for seven ties. Facing match point twice, Wisconsin Lutheran scored the final three points of the set for a thrilling 28-26 win.
  • Concordia Chicago opened up a 5-1 lead in the fifth set, before the Warriors came back to take their first lead at 9-8. WLC again faced set point at 15-14 but rallied for four of the final five points for an 18-16 win.
  • Charron and junior Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) each registered double-doubles to lead Wisconsin Lutheran. Charron had a school-record 31 kills to go along with 15 digs, while Sarles dished out 50 assists and added 14 digs.
  • Junior Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) led the team with 18 digs.
  • The Warriors were unable to grab the lead in the first set against the Scarlet Hawks. IIT used a five-point swing to take a 10-4 lead and scored four in a row shortly after for an 18-10 lead. Illinois Tech won the opening set 25-16.
  • WLC scored the first point of set two, but fell behind 9-2 soon after. Trailing by six at 24-18, Wisconsin Lutheran closed to within two points, but eventually fell 25-22.
  • The Warriors held a slim two-point lead early in the third set, but a four-point surge from the Scarlet Hawks allowed them to never trail the rest of the set. IIT closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the third set.
  • Charron led WLC with 11 kills, while Sarles added her second double-double of the day with 25 assists and 12 digs.
  • Goba collected a match-high 16 digs.
