Early Goal Holds Up As Eagles Edge WLC

LISLE, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team allowed just one goal in the fifth minute to host Benedictine on Wednesday night, but it was all the Eagles needed in a 1-0 win over the Warriors at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (5-11-0, 3-7-0 NACC), Benedictine (10-3-2, 7-2-1 NACC)
• Location: Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex, Lisle, Ill.

• The first shot attempt from either team came from the Eagles in the 5th minute and it found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
• Freshman goalkeeper Robert Jenewein (Kenosha, Wis.) made two first-half saves in his first collegiate start, as the score remained 1-0 in favor of BenU at halftime.
• Freshman Jesus Altamirano (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a scoring chance for the Warriors in the 47th minute of the second half, but his shot was saved by the Benedictine keeper.
• Jenewein made six additional saves in the second half to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard, but the first-half goal would be all that the hosts needed.
• Seniors Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.), Justin Kuffler (Moline, Ill.), and Altamirano each tallied a shot for Wisconsin Lutheran.
• Jenewein made eight saves in his first-ever collegiate start in goal.

• The Warriors play their final home game of the 2021 season on Saturday when they host Rockford (5-9-1, 3-6-1 NACC) for Homecoming and Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. Live coverage links will be available for the contest at WLCSports.com.
