Men's Soccer Blitzes Rockford With Second Half Scoring Spree

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Five different players scored goals in the second half to break open a scoreless match at halftime, as the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team shutout Rockford 5-0 on Homecoming and Senior Day on Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (6-11-0, 4-7-0 NACC), Rockford (5-10-1, 3-7-1 NACC)
  • Location: Warriors Soccer Field, Wauwatosa, Wis.

  • Neither team had presented many scoring threats in the first half, as the two sides combined for six total shots and two shots on goal, both coming from the Regents. The score read 0-0 through the first 45 minutes of action.
  • Freshman Nate Wenzel (Lake Zurich, Ill.) broke a scoreless match in the 49th minute of the second half with what proved to be the game-winner and his second goal of the season. The cross from the far left to right post was assisted by freshman Jesus Altamirano (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomore Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.).
  • Senior Trent Biesterfeld (Crete, Ill.) scored his first collegiate goal in the 64th minute for a 2-0 lead. Altamirano also assisted on the score.
  • Junior Josh Sepic (Mukwonago, Wis.) made it a three-score game in the 73rd minute when he scored unassisted to the right post for his first goal of the season.
  • Just over two minutes later, sophomore Ben Meaux (Franklin, Wis.) scored his third goal of the year off a diving header from a free kick off the foot of sophomore Titus Kostrezewa (Wauwatosa, Wis.).
  • Senior Justin Kuffler (Moline, Ill.) capped off the second-half scoring barrage in the 86th minute when he scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick from senior Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.).
  • Fifteen of the Warriors' 16 shots in the match came in the second half. Cano led the way with five shots, while Sepic had three shots on goal.
  • Freshman Bryce Beckley (Waterford, Wis.) made three saves to collect a clean sheet.
  • WLC honored its five seniors during a halftime ceremony. They included Biesterfeld, Kuffler, Luke Harty (South Milwaukee, Wis.), Jake Buhler (Greenville, Wis.), and Seth Boese (Greenfield, Wis.).
