Wisconsin Lutheran Sweeps Marian On Senior Night

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 sweep over Marian in its final NACC match of the season on Wednesday night inside the Recreation Complex. The win was the sixth sweep of the season for the Warriors and their sixth straight win over the Sabres in the series.

  • Final Score: Wisconsin Lutheran 3, Marian 0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (10-13, 8-5 NACC), Marian (11-14, 3-10 NACC)
  • Location: Recreation Complex, Milwaukee, Wis.

  • The Warriors turned a 6-5 first-set lead into a 14-6 advantage after an 8-1 scoring run. WLC led by as many as nine following a kill from junior Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) and took the first set from the Sabres 25-19.
  • Marian started the second set with a 7-2 lead, but Wisconsin Lutheran slowly battled back to take its first lead at 14-13. After MU evened the set at 14-14, the Warriors rattled off eight straight points to take control of the set and pull away for a 25-17 victory.
  • WLC never trailed in the third set despite five ties. With the set tied for the final time at 15-15, Wisconsin Lutheran scored two straight from an Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) kill and Charron service ace.
  • Junior Rebecca Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) led the Warriors with a match-high 11 kills, while Charron chipped in with 10 kills. Sarles dished out a match-high 29 assists.
  • Junior Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) collected a match-high 16 digs and freshman Amahra Matthai (Plover, Wis.) tallied four of the team's 10 block assists.
  • WLC honored its three seniors at the conclusion of the match in Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.), Dayton Pye (Zion, Ill.), and Abby Raasch (Stillwater, Minn.).

  • "Tonight was all about our seniors and I'm so thrilled for their sake that we ended their conference playing career on a sweep in front of their friends and family. It was very special to have all of them start and on the floor together, especially Abby, who made her season debut tonight after her season-ending injury last spring.
