Women's Volleyball Victorious Over Wheaton

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team avenged an earlier season loss to Wheaton by topping the Thunder 3-1 on Friday night in their first match of the Warrior Invitational. Junior Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) led the Warriors with a double-double of 33 assists and 18 digs.

  • Final Score: Wisconsin Lutheran 3, Wheaton 1 (11-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-14)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (11-13), Wheaton (13-14)
  • Location: Recreation Complex, Milwaukee, Wis.

  • The Warriors scored the first point of the opening set, but that was the only lead they would have as the Thunder built a 6-1 lead. WLC trailed 15-10, but Wheaton scored eight straight points and took the first set 25-11.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran scored the first five points of the second set and led wire to wire. The Thunder closed to within four points, but the Green and White netted five straight to build a set-high 10-point lead and even the match with a 25-15 win.
  • The Warriors jumped out to a 4-1 lead and never trailed in the third set. WLC led by as many as eight points when it scored the final point of the set for a 25-17 win.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran allowed the first point of the fourth set, but stormed back for an 8-2 lead. Wheaton came no closer than four points the rest of the set as the hosts closed out the match with a 25-17 fourth set win.
  • Junior Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) was the only player to post double-digit kills in the match, finishing with 13. Senior Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) was close behind with nine. Freshman Faith Zuleger (West Bend, Wis.) hit a team-high .318 with eight kills.
  • Sarles had 33 of the Warriors' 41 assists to go along with 18 digs for a double-double. 
  • Junior Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) posted a team-high 19 digs in addition to six service aces. Senior Dayton Pye (Zion, Ill.) chipped in with 11 digs.
