Eagles Come Back To Top Warriors In Four

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team played its first home match in two weeks on Friday against Benedictine. The Warriors won the first set by nine points, but the Eagles responded with three straight set wins to claim the NACC match.

  • Final Score: Benedictine 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 1 (16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (5-10, 3-2 NACC), Benedictine (9-9, 5-1 NACC)
  • Location: Recreation Complex, Milwaukee, Wis.

  • The first set between the Warriors and Eagles featured eight ties and five lead changes. Trailing 16-15, WLC scored the final 10 points of the opening set for a 25-16 win. Wisconsin Lutheran hit a match-high .357 in the first set.
  • The Warriors held a pair of one-point leads in the second set, but BenU pulled ahead for two separate five-point leads. Benedictine held a 17-12 lead only to see WLC come back and cut its deficit to just one point at 22-21, forcing an Eagles timeout. The visitors claimed a 25-22 second set win.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the third set, forcing a timeout from BenU. The Warriors held a match-high six-point lead at 11-5, only to see Benedictine bounce back to take its first lead at 18-17. The Eagles won the third set by a score of 25-21.
  • WLC jumped out to a commanding 11-4 lead in the fourth set and maintained its lead at 19-12. BenU closed out the decisive set with an 8-1 run for a 25-23 third set win.
  • Junior Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) led all players with a double-double of 15 kills and 12 digs. Junior Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) had 36 of the Warriors' 45 assists.
  • Junior Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) joined Charron in double-digit digs with 10. Freshman Amahra Matthai (Plover, Wis.) added five block assists to go along with her seven kills.
