Warriors Cap Conference Slate With Sweep Of Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team capped its 2021 conference slate with a 9-0 win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday at CUC Courts. The sweep was the Warriors' seventh of the fall season as well as their 10th straight win over the Cougars.

• The Warriors secured three wins in doubles competition over the Cougars, as sophomores Sky Pope (Macon, Ga.) and Kaytlyn Hartfield (New Holstein, Wis.) won 8-4 at No. 1, sophomore Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) and senior Amanda Wietrzny (Pewaukee, Wis.) won 8-1 at No. 2, and freshmen Ali Schmidt (Germantown, Wis.) and Haley Olson (Appleton, Wis.) won 8-0 at No. 3. The wins were the first of the season for each of the newly paired doubles teams.
• WLC also won all six singles matches in straight sets, with sophomore Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) (6-1, 6-4), Hartfield (6-1, 6-0), Hawley (6-2, 6-0), Schmidt (6-0, 6-1), sophomore Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) (6-0, 6-3), and senior Sandhya Akella (Carmel, Ind.) (6-1, 6-0) all picking up wins.
• The win for Schmidt was her team-leading 14th of the season in singles play, as she also finished a perfect 9-0 on the season in conference competition.

• The Warriors, who have qualified for the NACC Tournament, will resume their competition schedule in the spring. The conference tournament begins the week of May 2.
