Eagles Edge Warriors With Final Minute Score

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team suffered a heartbreaking 51-49 defeat to the Benedictine Eagles in the final minute of the game on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium.

  • The game was back-and-forth from the start, with Benedictine scoring first on a nine-yard rushing touchdown on its opening possession.
  • Senior Nick Yockey (Gig Harbor, Wash.) tossed a 21-yard touchdown to sophomore Carter Schneider (Lake Mills, Wis.) on the Warriors' second drive of the game. The lowest-scoring quarter of the game was tied 7-7 after the opening 15 minutes.
  • WLC opened the second quarter with another touchdown pass from Yockey to Schneider from seven yards away to cap an eight-play, 79-yard drive.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran's defense stayed firm over the next two drives, forcing Benedictine to settle for a field goal. The defensive stand would be exploited by Wisconsin Lutheran with a 35-yard bomb from Yockey to Schneider for their third touchdown connection of the half and a 21-10 lead. The Eagles added a late second-quarter touchdown to bring the score to 21-17 in favor of the hosts at halftime.
  • BenU scored two consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter to take its second lead of the contest. Late in the third quarter, Yockey threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to freshman Chris White (Houston, Texas) for a 31-28 WLC advantage heading into the final quarter.
  • Yockey connected with senior Jordan Jewell (Hartford, Wis.) for a six-yard passing TD just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter. Benedictine countered shortly after with its own rushing touchdown to make the score 38-35.
  • The ensuing drive resulted in a four-yard rushing touchdown by senior Justin Parbs (Brookfield, Wis.), his first of two in the fourth quarter. Benedictine answered with a touchdown pass from six yards out for a 45-42 lead.
  • Parbs found the end zone on a one-yard rushing touchdown with 1:26 left in the game to give the Warriors a 49-45 lead. 
  • With 0:52 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Benedictine responded with a score on a three-play scoring drive, establishing a two-point lead after a failed PAT.
  • On the ensuing drive, the Eagles intercepted Yockey near midfield and the game resulted in a 51-49 final.
  • Parbs rushed for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns for his fifth straight 100-yard rushing game and sixth of the season.
  • Yockey was 27-for-36 for 404 yards and five touchdowns, with Schneider hauling in eight receptions for 151 yards and three scores. Sophomore Trevion Green (Miami, Fla.) added 11 receptions for 118 yards.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran's 517 yards of offense was its second-highest output of the season.
  • Senior Ty Castillo (Palmetto, Fla.) had a game-high eight tackles (seven solo, one assisted) and sophomore Gabe Morgan (Houston, Texas) added six tackles. Castillo and freshman Wyatt Grisell (Gardnerville, Nev.) also forced fumbles.

  • The Warriors wrap up their 2021 season with a 3-7 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in the NACC.
