Football Stakes Claim To Luther Cup Trophy

Box Score

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College football team regained the Luther Cup trophy for the first time since 2017 after a convincing 41-21 win over NACC rival Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at Raabe Stadium. The 20-point victory is the Warriors' largest margin ever over the Falcons. Senior Justin Parbs (Brookfield, Wis.) became just the second player in program history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a season during Saturday's rivalry game.

  • Final Score: Wisconsin Lutheran 41, Concordia Wisconsin 21
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (3-6, 3-4 NACC), Concordia Wisconsin (6-3, 4-3 NACC)
  • Location: Raabe Stadium, Wauwatosa, Wis.

  • The Warriors marched 66 yards on 11 plays on their opening drive, but the drive stalled in the red zone and freshman Arnulfo Ortega's (Laredo, Texas) 26-yard field goal gave the hosts an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Falcons responded with a 28-yard passing touchdown on their next possession, but WLC scored late in the first quarter on an 18-yard pass from senior Nick Yockey (Gig Harbor, Wash.) to freshman Chris White (Houston, Texas) to cap a seven-play, 58-yard scoring drive and put Wisconsin Lutheran in front 10-7.
  • The Green and White added a pair of second-quarter touchdowns, the first on a 14-yard throw from Yockey to senior Jordan Jewell (Hartford, Wis.) and a 12-yard pass from Yockey to sophomore Trevion Green (Miami, Fla.). The later score was setup by an interception from junior Brevin Jegerlehner (Sun Prairie, Wis.) as the Warriors held a commanding 24-7 halftime lead.
  • The Warriors opened the second half scoring 10 consecutive points on a 45-yard rushing touchdown from Parbs and a 31-yard field goal by Ortega. CUW added a late third-quarter touchdown to make the score 34-14 after three quarters.
  • Concordia Wisconsin scored first in the fourth, but it would be too late as Yockey connected with Jewell on a 21-yard touchdown pass on a third-down pass play to seal the game, 41-21.
  • Parbs posted his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game and fifth in the last six games with 166 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season on a 16-yard run with four minutes left in the game.
  • Yockey was an efficient 22-for-31 for 270 yards and four touchdowns through the air.
  • Jewell caught eight passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Defensively, senior Ty Castillo (Palmetto, Fla.) led all players with 13 tackles and a tackle for loss.
  • Sophomore Kyle Kubacki (St. Francis, Wis.) recorded eight tackles, with two of them being sacks.

  • "Today was the product of a group who committed to each other and to working hard no matter the circumstances. I'm so proud of how we showed love in our actions and fired up to bring the Luther Cup back where it belongs." - Head Coach Eric Treske

  • The Warriors wrap up their 2021 season next Saturday with another home game against Benedictine (7-2, 6-1 NACC). The Senior Day kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Raabe Stadium. Live coverage links will be available for the game at WLCSports.com.
