Warriors Sprint To Second Straight 8-0 Start

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Nicole Jongebloed (Horicon, Wis.) scored a career-high 14 points and added a game-high seven rebounds to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team past Dominican in a lopsided victory, 82-36, on Saturday afternoon inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors improved to 8-0 for the second straight year and extended their winning streak to 11 games dating back to last season.

  • Out of the gate, the game began with a 10-0 run by the Warriors. With a minute left in the first quarter, Jongebloed capitalized on a three-point play, contributing to WLC's lead. Senior Kalies Birkholz (Watertown, Wis.) closed out the opening period with her second three to give Wisconsin Lutheran a 22-7 lead.
  • In the first few minutes of the second quarter, the Warriors got the ball inside to freshman Madi Manson (Arvada, Colo.) for back-to-back buckets. WLC was also determined to score off of the fast break, scoring a pair of fast break baskets with 1:38 left before halftime. The Stars closed out the half with a three-point play, but it was Wisconsin Lutheran which had a convincing halftime lead of 45-10. WLC shot a blistering 45.5 percent from three-point range in the first half in addition to scoring 16 points off turnovers.
  • The opening of the third quarter saw a new starting five for the Warriors, but they picked up right where they left off. Sophomore Meggie Scott (Yorkville, Ill.) found freshman Haley Ott (Germantown, Wis.) in the paint for a trio of layups in the period. The Stars responded with a four-point play. However, WLC continued to dominate, leading the game 65-21 through three periods. Wisconsin Lutheran held its biggest lead of the game with 2:58 left in the quarter, leading the Stars by 48 points.
  • The Warriors opened the fourth quarter with a layup by freshman Ainsley Howard (Jefferson, Wis.) and a jumpshot by freshman Lexy Schneider (Fond du Lac, Wis.). WLC saw every active player take the court in the contest, with some getting their first in-game action of the season. 
  • Jongebloed paced the Warriors with a career-high 14 points off the bench, while freshmen Manson and Ott each added eight points to the convincing victory. Scott led WLC with six assists off the bench.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran shot 42.3 percent from the floor in the contest, and scored a dominating 46 points in the paint. WLC's bench contributed 62 points in the game.
