Stoltz's Double-Double Lifts Wisconsin Lutheran Over Benedictine

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) recorded his first career double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team to a 71-65 win over Benedictine on Wednesday night inside the Recreation Complex. It was the Warriors' 12th straight win on Catalyst Court.

  • The Eagles never trailed over the opening eight minutes of the game, as they built a six-point lead at the 14:32 mark of the first half. It was their largest lead of the contest.
  • The Warriors responded with a 9-2 scoring run capped by a three-pointer from junior Simeon Strauss (Chicago, Ill.) to take their first lead of the game at 18-17.
  • BenU led by six points on three different occasions, but WLC closed out the first half on a 10-3 run to take a 33-32 lead into halftime. Stoltz put Wisconsin Lutheran ahead with the team's fifth three of the half with 1:53 left before intermission.
  • Benedictine tallied the first two points of the second half to grab a short-lived one-point lead, but a three from senior Drew Bernhagen (Markesan, Wis.) on the Warriors' next possession sparked a 7-0 run as the hosts never trailed from that point forward.
  • The Eagles evened the score at 41-41 at the 15:25 mark, but a 16-4 run by WLC gave them their largest lead of the game at 57-45 with 8:49 left to play.
  • BenU didn't go away though as they came within a point at 62-61 behind a 10-3 run that culminated with 2:53 on the clock.
  • Stoltz buried a three from the right wing to give the hosts a 65-61 lead and Wisconsin Lutheran went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe the rest of the way to seal its 12th straight home win.
  • Stoltz led the Warriors with his first career double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Jon Bailey (Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior Trevor Stiede (Pulaski, Wis.) added 12 and 11 points off the bench, respectively.
  • Bernhagen dished out four assists and sophomore Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) blocked two shots.
  • WLC shot 38.5 percent from the floor but forced 15 turnovers and out-scored the Eagles 28-10 in bench points.
