Warriors Lockdown Lakeland In Second Half

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team out-scored Lakeland 37-13 over the final two quarters to overcome a slim halftime deficit and defeat the Muskies 68-46 on Friday night inside the Woltzen Gymnasium. The win was the Warriors' fourth straight over Lakeland.

  • Following two Lakeland free throws for the first points of the game, the Warriors scored seven straight behind five of those from junior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.).
  • The Muskies regained the lead at 13-11, but senior Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) netted four of her team's final six points of the opening quarter as WLC led 17-15 after one.
  • After four ties through the first three minutes of the second quarter, LU jumped in front by as many as six points at 33-27 with under two minutes left. Wisconsin Lutheran closed to within two at halftime behind a jumper from freshman Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) and free throws from Mace.
  • The Warriors grabbed their first lead of the second half, 40-38, thanks to a three from Mace with 6:51 on the third-quarter clock.
  • WLC surged ahead by double-digits behind a 10-0 run and carried a 55-42 advantage into the fourth after Leisemann's layup to close the quarter.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran allowed just four points in the fourth quarter and held the Muskies scoreless for over a seven-minute stretch.
  • The Green and White took their largest lead of the game of 22 points with 1:38 left on a free throw from junior Abby Vavra (Mukwonago, Wis.).

  • Mace paced three players in double figures with a game-high 18 points. It was her third straight game leading the Warriors in scoring.
  • Leisemann finished with 14 points and freshman Kaitlyn Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) added 10.
  • WLC out-rebounded Lakeland 48-38 and saw Leisemann and freshman Liz Bagley (West Bend, Wis.) grab nine rebounds each.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran turned 24 Muskies turnovers into 21 points and out-scored the hosts 36-20 in the paint.
  • The Green and White finished the game shooting 39.1 percent (27-for-69).

  • Abby Nylund was the lone Muskie to reach double figures with 14 points. Megan Will and Kacey Gardner each pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Lakeland shot 31.5 percent (17-for-54) for the game and made seven of its eight free throw attempts.
