Warriors Coast To Convincing Win Over Alverno

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Junior Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) scored a game-high 18 points and junior Abby Vavra (Mukwonago, Wis.) added a career-high 10 points off the bench as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team cruised to an 81-27 win over Alverno on Friday night inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors allowed single-digit points in three quarters en route to their fewest points allowed since February 7, 2018.

  • The Warriors scored 24 straight points in the first quarter after the score was knotted at 2-2. Vavra and senior Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) netted six points apiece in the opening quarter as WLC shot 52.6 percent from the floor. Wisconsin Lutheran forced nine turnovers and held the Inferno to just 1-for-14 shooting in the period.
  • The Green and White scored the first 13 points of the second period and coasted into halftime with a 43-8 lead. Mace added six points to lead the Warriors in the quarter as they limited Alverno to 2-for-16 shooting.
  • WLC opened the third quarter with 11 straight points as Mace capped the run with a three. Wisconsin Lutheran led 65-14 through three after shooting 52.9 percent (9-for-17) and was led by Mace's nine points. 
  • The hosts lead reached a game-high 55 points after scoring the first five points of the final quarter with eight minutes to play. Simeon Schult (Wausau, Wis.) and Maria Murray (Middleton, Wis.) led six players who reached the scoring column in the quarter with four points each. 

  • Mace paced the Warriors in scoring for the fifth straight game with a game-high 18 points. Vavra added 10 points off the bench to culminate the double-figure scorers.
  • Freshman Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with nine points. 
  • WLC shot 43.2 percent (32-for-74) for the game and 75 percent (12-for-16) from the charity stripe. 
  • Wisconsin Lutheran out-scored Alverno 32-4 in points off turnovers, 18-4 in second-chance points, and 48-14 in the paint.
  • The Green and White matched a season-high in assists (20), steals (17), and blocks (7), while committing just 10 turnovers. 

  • Keeshya Bellows scored nine points to lead the Inferno, which shot 17.6 percent for the game and committed 32 turnovers.
