WLC Feasts Off Miscues In Huge Road Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Juniors Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) and Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.) scored 17 points apiece and the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team converted 36 turnovers into 53 points for an 88-33 road win over Marian on Saturday night inside Sadoff Gymnasium. It was the largest margin of victory for the Warriors since a 57-point triumph over the Sabres on February 7, 2018.

  • The Warriors netted the first five points of the game behind scoring from three different players just one minute into the action. WLC rattled off a 9-0 run five minutes later, ignited by a Gough three and went into the second quarter with an 18-9 lead. Freshman Sam Leisemann (Fall River, Wis.) paced Wisconsin Lutheran with six points in the opening quarter.
  • Nine of the Warriors' first 11 points of the second came from beyond the arc as the visitors built a 29-10 lead at the 6:19 mark. WLC's lead reached 22 points twice in the quarter, the first after a jumper from senior Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) with 4:04 left before halftime. Wisconsin Lutheran held that same lead at halftime after freshman Meggie Scott's (Yorkville, Ill.) steal and layup as the first half horn sounded put the Green and White ahead 43-21. Mace scored 10 points in the period as WLC shot 68.8 percent (11-for-16) from the floor in the quarter.
  • A 17-0 run by the Warriors in the third quarter extended a 20-point lead to 37 points with just under five minutes left. Seven different players combined for the 28 points in the period as Wisconsin Lutheran was in front 71-33 through three quarters. The Green and White forced 12 turnovers in the frame.
  • WLC posted a shutout of the Sabres in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the hosts 17-0. Sophomore Simeon Schult (Wausau, Wis.) had five points and six rebounds in the period for the Warriors.

  • Mace and Gough finished with 17 points each to lead the Warriors, as the duo combined to make all seven of WLC's three-pointers. The point total was a career-high for Gough.
  • Leisemann was the third Warrior in double figures with a season-high 14 points to go along with a team-best seven rebounds. 
  • WLC shot an even 45 percent (27-for-60) from the floor for the game and converted 27 of its 39 attempts from the charity stripe.
  • The Green and White won the rebounding battle 42-32, including 15 on the offensive end.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran forced 36 turnovers and converted them into 53 points. The visitors also owned a 30-10 margin on points in the paint. 

  • Paris Harris paced the Sabres with nine points and nine rebounds.
  • Marian was held to 21.7 percent shooting for the game and made nearly as many free throws (9) as field goals (10).
