Women's Tennis Secures 9-0 Sweep Of Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team secured its first sweep of the season on Saturday, earning a 9-0 non-conference win over the Dubuque Spartans on Saturday afternoon inside the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center.

• Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (3-7), Dubuque (1-10)
• Location: Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center, Dubuque, Iowa

• The Warriors won all three matches in doubles competition with freshman Kaytlyn Hartfield (New Holstein, Wis.) and freshman Katelynn Haskell (Santa Maria, Calif.) winning 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Jena Smith (Lake Mills, Wis.) and freshman Izzy Hawley (Allen Park, Mich.) won at No. 2 doubles 8-0 for their fourth win of the season. WLC won at No. 3 by default. 
• WLC swept the singles portion, with Hartfield winning at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Gabrielle Medema (Appleton, Wis.) won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-0 to improve to 6-2 of the year, and Haskell picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Smith and Hawley each won their matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

• Alyssa Stevenson competed at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Spartans falling 6-3, 6-0 in singles and 8-3 with her teammate Lauren Colon in doubles.

• The Warriors close out their non-conference slate against St. Scholastica (1-3) on Wednesday afternoon. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Brookfield East High School.
