Bernhagen, Goetz Spearhead Record-Breaking Win

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Junior Drew Bernhagen (Markesan, Wis.) scored a season and game-high 25 points to lead three players in double figures as the top-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team set a NACC Tournament record for points scored in a 105-71 Divisional Semifinal win over fourth-seeded Lakeland on Wednesday night inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors advance to Saturday's Divisional Final where they will host second-seeded Edgewood.

  • Neither team could gain much of an advantage through the first 10 minutes of the opening half as the back-and-forth battle featured six ties and eight lead changes.
  • The Muskies took their largest lead of the game at 26-22 after a three-pointer with 8:09 left in the first half. The Warriors quickly erased that deficit thanks to three straight made buckets forced a Lakeland timeout and WLC led 31-26 after a layup from freshman Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.).
  • LU closed within three at 34-31 but Wisconsin Lutheran finished the final 4:09 of the first half on a 10-4 run for a 44-35 halftime lead. Junior Zach Zuleger (West Bend, Wis.) capped the half with a layup to send the Green and White into intermission with a nine-point lead.
  • The Warriors out-scored the Muskies 15-4 over the first 4:50 of the second half as sophomore Trevor Stiede (Pulaski, Wis.) drained a three to cap the run.
  • Another 11-4 run by WLC over the next four minutes gave them a 28-point lead following a layup from Bernhagen.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran continued to run away with the game, as its lead never dropped below 28 points over the final 10:36 of the game. The Green and White pushed its lead to a game-high 36 points with 2:49 on the clock after a three-point play from junior Braden Beiermann (Lincoln, Neb.). 

  • Bernhagen led the scoring outburst with a season-high 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting. He connected on four of his team's 10 three-pointers.
  • Freshman Grayson Goetz (Aurora, Ill.) finished with a season-high 22 points off the bench on 10-of-12 shooting to go along with eight rebounds.
  • Zuleger posted his second double-double of the year with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Warriors shot a season-high 53.1 percent (43-for-81) from the floor and recorded a season-high 26 assists.
  • WLC dominated the glass by a 51-33 margin and out-scored Lakeland 62-26 in the paint.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran surpassed its previous season-high for points after previously scoring 104 in its February 13 home win over LU.
  • The Green and White won their fifth straight game over the Muskies, averaging 101.6 points over those five wins.

  • Trenton Nickel scored 16 points to lead three Muskies in double figures. 
  • Lakeland shot 38 percent (27-for-71) from the floor for the game.

  • The Warriors remain home where they will host second-seeded Edgewood (10-6) on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the NACC Divisional Final. The Eagles were 83-81 winners at the buzzer over third-seeded Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday. The winner of the game advances to the NACC Tournament Final against either third-seeded Aurora and top-seeded Rockford from the South Division.
